My TAG-Ed experience:
During the summer before my senior year, I interned with Verizon Wireless in Small to Medium Business Marketing for the South Area. I spent one or two weeks with different members of the marketing team so that I gained experience in driving businesses into retail, sales enablement, top-line funnel growth, and social selling. Below are a couple examples of projects I worked on: – Created a Meeting in a Box, which is a weekly newsletter for sales reps that keeps them updated on promotions and offers. – Formed discussion questions based on articles I found about wireless technology to be posted on Verizon’s various LinkedIn groups to stimulate conversation with customers. – Researched Predictive Intelligence Engines to report on the value and relevance they may have for an organization. Packaged and presented findings to management. – Designed a flyer promoting hands-free devices that was shared for use within the entire B2B sales team.
What I’m doing now:
I am enjoying my senior year in high school playing soccer and volunteering in my community. I have been able to continue learning about marketing through being part of the Academy of Finance at my school, which includes classes in economics, personal finance, entrepreneurship, and marketing.
Future Plans:
I am in the process of applying to colleges. Although I have not decided what career I would like to pursue, my internship has showed me that marketing is an exciting field to enter because companies are always looking for new ways to market their products and services. Through working at Verizon Wireless, I have also learned that I can combine my interests for STEM and marketing, which were two areas that I previously viewed as completely unrelated.
Work/Volunteer experiences shaped by my internship:
During my internship, I would be given several assignments to complete over a period of time. I learned to schedule my time and stay organized. These skills have been useful in all parts of my life. For example, my girl scout troop is currently planning the Dunwoody Father Daughter Sock Hop, an event with around 500 attendees. Being organized has helped me to keep the planning for this event on schedule so that we will be prepared on the night of the dance.
